It’s Time to Get Your Twestival Seattle On, Everyone…

Posted on: March 24 2010 at 11:22 pm - Comment

It’s hard to believe in just a few short hours, Twestival Seattle will be in full swing! Are you ready? Have you picked the ideal ensemble? Did you prepare the perfect tweet? In case you’re twitterpated by your love of Twitter and need a hand pulling yourself together, we’d like to provide you a handy participant guide to make your experience a breeze:

So, where do I park?

Emerald City Trapeze Arts is located at 2702 6th Ave South
Seattle, Washington 98134. There is a parking lot next to the building for about 20 – 30 cars. If you see a bright yellow VW Thing out front courtesy of Hansen’s Natural Soda, you’re in the right place! There is street parking as well, or be green with an adventure on Metro! Here’s the closest stop: SODO Busway ACRd & S Lander St. Or hey, why not a pedicab?

Can I buy tickets at the door?

I don’t know, can you? (Anyone remember that one from grade school? No?) You may not buy a ticket at the door or donate cash or pay us off in an effort to get past the velvet rope. Yes, we are aware this is one of the greatest events in Seattle and we want to raise money for Concern Worldwide, but please leave your money in your pocket until it’s raffle ticket time - then you can pretend you’re in a rap video and donate that cash to your heart’s content.

What should I bring?

Unless you hate awesome prizes, be sure to bring cash so you can purchase tickets to win great raffle items while simultaneously doing good for the world. Have you seen those prizes our friends donated? Hit up the ATM beforehand. Trust us.

If you’re flying, please be sure to bring your waiver and your brave face. Friendly reminder: stay away from the libations pre-trapeze. We don’t want your body or your reputation damaged beyond repair. You’ll probably want to bring a change of clothing for the trapeze as well unless you have integrated spandex/tight clothing into your daily wardrobe. Loose fitting clothing, dresses, jewelry and long hair are the ingredients for disaster, so please take a look at the suggested attire at www.emeraldcitytrapeze.com.

So what am I going to see at Twestival Seattle?

Besides fabulous prizes, great company and generous sponsor swag, you’re going to see a few things you’ve never seen and a few things you might want to see more of:

—We’re working with the local technology startup community. We’re going to be debuting a new location-based friend-finding service called Digri. Attendees at Twestival will be able to beta test the new site before it goes live to the public. Info on the site can be found at www.digri.net

—David Hoang founder of www.SocialLOL.com will be bringing a drawing or two and auctioning them off in a raffle. I hear one of the drawings is of Chris Pirillo and Chris will be autographing the drawing.

—Attendees will have a chance to learn to fly as part of the event. Sixty pre-registered attendees will take a trapeze lesson starting a half hour before the event starts. Heyo!

—Social Media Bingo! Bingo cards with different social media avatars will be handed out at the registration table. Be prepared to get autographs on the avatars for a chance to get Bingo or a Blackout and win a special prize.

Well, I think we’ve about covered it! We’re so thankful you and our Twestival sponsors, partners and supporters are going to be part of this very fun and very important event. If you have any questions, please reach out to us on Twitter @TwestivalSEA or via Facebook on our fan page. You are also welcome to mildly harass any one of our event leaders: http://twitter.com/TwestivalSEA/twestival-leaders.

Can’t wait to see you!

BE THE FIRST TO BETA TEST A LOCAL TECH STARTUP SITE WHILE YOU’RE AT TWESTIVAL!

Posted on: at 10:10 am - Comment

by Sasha Pasulka, member of the Digri team

We like Twestival because it’s an exciting opportunity to bring people together in support of a common cause. Maybe you already know people who are attending, or maybe you’re showing up solo and planning to make friends on the spot. Either way, we’re all there because we want to meet people who share our passion for leveraging social media to improve the world. Digri, a new geolocation friend-finding site, makes that easier by using your location and network to recommend people you might like to meet.

How does it work? When you use Foursquare to check in at Twestival Seattle (Emerald City Trapeze), Digri checks your network of friends on Facebook. If you share a friend with someone else who’s checked in at that location, Digri sends you a text to let you know who they are and what you have in common with them. It’s an ice-breaker and friend-finder right in your pocket.

We’re excited to help you make new friends at Twestival Seattle (one might even say we’re swinging from the rafters). We’ll be there in person to chat with you about your experience with Digri and what we can do to make it more useful for you.

To sign up, head over to Digri.net and get registered. It’s a one-time process and then you’re good to go. We’ll start finding friends for you as soon as you check in at Twestival!

We’ll have our team at the Seattle event to answer questions and get your feedback on how Digri can best help you make connections. We look forward to meeting you!

Social Media Enthusiasts Aim to Set Record on Thursday with Twestival Seattle

Posted on: March 22 2010 at 6:17 am - Comment

Twestival Seattle seeks to raise $15,000 to help build schools and renovate classrooms for world’s poorest children - largest social media planned volunteer event in history.

Who:

Social Media Club Seattle with Seattle’s top Twitter personalities, social media enthusiasts and humanitarians.

What:

Hundreds of Seattle’s top social media practitioners will converge at Emerald City Trapeze for a night of offline socializing, networking, and a chance to take a swing through the air on a flying trapeze – all in the name of charity. All of the money raised at the event will benefit international aid organization Concern Worldwide and its work providing the world’s poorest children with access to quality education.

Twestival Seattle is part of a larger international effort to combine networking, social media and charity. This global fundraising event will take place in more than 200 cities worldwide, with each city choosing one of eight Concern Worldwide education initiatives to support. Here in Seattle, the Twestival mantra is “1 party = 1 school.” The ambitious goal for the evening is to raise $15,000 or roughly the average cost of building/renovating one school.

When:

Thursday, March 25, 7-10:30 p.m. PDT

Where:

What’s the most important thing to say after a Twestival?

Posted on: October 1 2009 at 5:42 pm - Comment

I’m going to start this post with an apology. Our latest Twestival for Seattle’s YouthCare could not have been pulled off without the support and participation of many people. I will do my best to thank as many of those people as possible in this message, but I’m sure that I will miss a person or two (or a dozen). Please realize that even if your name isn’t mentioned, your contribution was valued and helped make this a truly successful event. (more…)
